Password-protected or encrypted archives cannot be scanned unless the password is provided, as their contents are inaccessible by design.

Security Shaped by Experience

It began with a late-night realisation.

While working on a client project, DanielScan founder Mark Barton began looking at the IT landscape in a different way. No matter what a system does, it will eventually need to handle files. Despite the advances in cloud technology, many businesses still treat files the way they did before the internet: storing them locally, then sending them into central repositories with security based mainly on user permissions. Mark realised that for cybercriminals, the easiest way to breach a system is to get a malicious file through the front door.

That moment sparked the idea for DanielScan: a way to intercept and process files before they ever reached a company’s infrastructure. To turn that vision into reality, Mark reached out to trusted colleagues with deep expertise. Paul Stevenson brought DevSecOps and cyber security experience from both enterprise and law enforcement. Kevin Revill added decades of database and enterprise programming skill, having built systems for the BBC, G4S and other major organisations. Hassam Waheed contributed advanced AI, IoT and full-stack engineering knowledge from projects spanning fintech to global asset tracking.
